Rockstar Games has surprised fans by dropping the second official trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI. This new video gives a much better look at the game’s two main characters, the big new world called Leonida, and the criminal adventures they’ll get into. The GTA VI Trailer 2 was released on May 6, 2025, just a short while after Rockstar changed the game’s release date to May 26, 2026.
This new trailer, which is almost three minutes long, shows a lot more than the first one from December 2023. It focuses on Lucia and Jason, who are the first pair of main characters in a main GTA game set in modern times. We see more about their connection and how they get caught up in the sunny but dangerous world of crime in Vice City and the areas around it.

Meet Lucia and Jason: A Modern Crime Duo in Leonida
The trailer tells us more about the game’s lead characters. Lucia Caminos, who we saw a lot in the first trailer, seems like a strong person who was just let out of prison in Leonida. The official GTA VI website, which has been updated, says she’s a survivor. She learned to fight when she was young and now wants to make a better life for herself, even if it means breaking the law.
Her partner in crime is Jason Duval. He used to be a soldier and now works with a local group involved in selling drugs. His story seems to be about a man looking for an easy life but who keeps getting into more dangerous situations. The trailer strongly hints that meeting Lucia will be a big and possibly risky change in his life.
Their relationship is a key part of the trailer, suggesting a close bond that grows as they face big heists and dangerous plots. Rockstar’s official game description says that after “a simple job goes wrong, they find themselves in the darkest part of America’s sunniest place. They’re stuck in a big criminal plot that spreads across the state of Leonida — and they have to trust each other more than ever to survive.”

Vice City, a new version of the famous city based on Miami, is still a big part of the game. But Trailer 2 shows us much more of the world, letting viewers see the different places in the state of Leonida. Besides the bright streets and pretty beaches of Vice City, the video shows other spots like
- Port Gellhorn: This looks like another city or an industrial area.
- Ambrosia: Another place name that hints at how big the world will be to explore.
- Grassrivers: A large swampy area, which suggests there will be more nature, like in Red Dead Redemption 2, probably with lots of animals.
- Mount Kalaga National Park: This shows there will be large wild areas and countryside away from the cities.
The official trailer from Rockstar Games also gives us a peek at everyday life and the special Florida-like feel Rockstar wants to create. New People and Familiar Ideas
Besides the main characters, the trailer and the updated website show some new supporting characters who will likely be important in Lucia and Jason’s story. These include:
- Brian Heder: He’s described as an old-school drug smuggler. Jason seems to be working for him, possibly helping him collect money from local shops.
- Raul Bautista: A skilled bank robber looking for new people to help him, which might connect to Lucia’s crimes and the “simple job gone wrong.”
- Cal Hampton: A friend of Jason’s who believes in conspiracy theories.
- Dre’Quan Priest, Boobie Ike, and the music group Real Dimez (Bae-Luxe and Roxy): These characters are part of Vice City’s music world, suggesting there might be side stories or missions about the entertainment business.
The trailer is full of action. There are fast car chases—including one scene that looks like the movie Fast Five, where a safe is pulled through the streets by a car—and exciting gunfights. We also see chases on boats and jet skis, and even a quick look at Lucia in what seems to be a cage fight, hinting at a better hand-to-hand fighting system. Heists, which were a big part of GTA V, seem to be coming back. One scene clearly shows Lucia and Jason with masks on, robbing the “Sinfrontera National Bank.”

The trailer was recorded on a PlayStation 5 and shows off really impressive graphics. The details in the characters, places, lighting, and reflections have gotten a lot of praise. From the water drops on beer bottles to the small details in clothes and car damage, Rockstar looks like it’s using the full power of today’s game systems. The lively, and often wild, feel of Leonida is shown with beautiful graphics, promising a game world that feels very real and pulls you in. The different animals, like alligators in pools and various birds, also show how rich the game world will be.
A Longer Wait, But More to Talk About
The surprise release of Trailer 2 gives us an exciting peek at what GTA VI will offer. It also reminds us that we have to wait until its May 26, 2026 release. Rockstar said the delay from the first planned release in Fall 2025 was because they want to make a game that is even better than what their fans around the world expect.
